Hollywood star Robert Downey Jr. is set to return to Marvel Studios, but this time as the infamous Dr. Doom. Marvel Studios has announced the latest addition to the Avengers series, ‘Avengers Doomsday,’ during San Diego Comic-Con 2024. The news was unveiled by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and Robert Downey Jr. himself.
Renowned for his iconic role as Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Downey Jr. surprised fans at Hall H by revealing his new role as the Fantastic Four’s arch-nemesis, Doctor Doom. This unexpected casting has generated a wave of excitement and intrigue, marking Downey Jr.’s shift from a beloved hero to one of Marvel’s most complex villains.
The announcement received a thunderous response from the Comic-Con audience, and fans took to social media to share their enthusiasm about Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU.
Following the official reveal, Downey Jr. took to Instagram with a post captioned, “New mask, same task (sic).”
Doctor Doom, or Victor Von Doom, is a legendary supervillain from Marvel Comics. Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, Doom made his debut in Fantastic Four #5 in 1962. While he is primarily known as the nemesis of the Fantastic Four, he has also clashed with numerous other Marvel heroes, including the Avengers. Doom is famed for his unparalleled intellect, mastery of both science and magic, and his despotic rule over the fictional nation of Latveria.
